Some themes only allow featured images for posts, which is why you won’t be able to add a nice photo of your finished dish to your recipe. If you tried adding a featured image but can’t seem to find the Featured Image box, this might be the case for your theme. Try switching to a default WordPress theme to see if that solved it.
Luckily there is a quick fix for this problem: edit the theme files (start looking in functions.php) and find a line that looks something like this:
add_theme_support( 'post-thumbnails', apply_filters( 'pagelines_post-thumbnails', array('post') ) );
This is the line you’ll replace, but you have two options. Options 1 will mean you can attach featured images to anything, including pages, but they won’t show up on the front end site if the theme isn’t set up to accommodate them. If you want to be more specific, option 2 will just add the featured image box to recipes as well as posts.
add_theme_support( 'post-thumbnails' );
add_theme_support( 'post-thumbnails', apply_filters( 'pagelines_post-thumbnails', array('post', 'recipe') ) );
Replace the original line with one of those above, hit “update file”, and you should be all set.
